The UCSD DIII-D Collaboration, led by Dr. Richard Moyer, Dr. Jose Boedo, and
Professor George Tynan, was recently awarded a $2.4M three year grant to
study the physics behavior of the boundary region of hot fusion grade
plasmas that will be encountered in ITER - the world's first burning plasma
experiments. Studies focus on the turbulent transport of particles,
momentum, and heat in the edge plasma region, control of undesirable edge
plasma oscillations, and avoidance, detection, and control of off-normal
plasma termination events known as disruptions.
